KEY MILESTONE ACHIEVED AS NEW FLOWER MARKET IS COMPLETED
Work on the landmark project is well advanced with VINCI St. Modwen (VSM), the 50/50 joint venture between St. Modwen Properties PLC and VINCI PLC, having delivered to its partner, Covent Garden Market Authority (CGMA), the completed 89,000 sq ft new Flower Market ahead of its opening on 3 April, 2017.
The Flower Market, located directly on Nine Elms Lane, adds to the growing milestones of completed work on site, including the refurbishment of the existing multi-storey car park, the new recycling and waste facility featuring 5-a-side football pitches above on the upper level and on the roof, as well as a welfare block and a new entrance plaza. The steel frame to the Interim Distribution Units and Food Quarter is currently being erected on site with a planned completion in Autumn 2017.
Tim Seddon, Regional Director of St. Modwen said: “We have delivered a modern new space for the flower market with more efficient facilities in a temperature-controlled environment so that it can continue its long and proud wholesale tradition within London. The old flower market will now be demolished to make way for the Nine Elms Square development which will form the eastern entrance of the new Nine Elms Park. The scheme will provide around 1,900 apartments and flexible retail uses including cafés, restaurants and bars together with up to 110,000 sq ft of Grade A offices.”
Planning permission for the redevelopment of the 57 acre site was granted in November 2014 and enabling works commenced in July 2015. The 10-year project will see the delivery of over 500,000 sq ft of new state-of-the-art market facilities across a 37 acre site. The remaining 20 acres of land will be transformed into three high quality residential neighbourhoods comprising approximately 3,000 new homes, 135,000 sq ft of office space and 100,000 sq ft of retail, leisure and new community facilities, including shops, cafés and restaurants.
