Exciting times as the structure of the next phase begins to take shape

March 2023

With Phase Two of the trader blocks of the Fruit and Vegetable Market redevelopment now up and running and housing 24 market businesses in state-of-the-art facilities, work is now pressing ahead on the third phase of the project, which will accommodate four further major wholesale and distribution businesses.

Structural demolition work which commenced in November 2022 has finished and ground works completed ready for the installation of the structure for the market tenants’ new units, which will then be built out and ready to move into by February 2024.

The image above shows the very first steel beams arriving on 14 March 2023 and the process of craning them into position and beginning to form the structure.

Josef Vere-Bujnowski, construction manager at St. Modwen said: “Following the demolition and ground works this is always such an iconic moment when the first steel beams are set into position and people can really see the scale of the new units for the first time. We’re very pleased to be at this stage and looking forward completing the structure in the coming months.
