People make places: Clive Bournsell's market photography
The film follows Covent Garden Market photographer Clive Bournsell. Created by Chocolate Films in partnership with VINCI St Modwen and Covent Garden Market Authority as part of a wider piece documenting Memories of the Market, the film was originally shown at a one-night-only event for the London Festival of Architecture in July 2017.
From its original home in Covent Garden to its new, 21st Century base in Nine Elms, Clive has documented the market’s evolution; its architecture, its produce, but most of all its people. And Clive is continuing to photograph the market as it transforms in the coming years.
“Continually look for whatever you think is ordinary or boring, then shoot it. Because tomorrow it will be gone, and it will become unbelievably extraordinary.” Clive’s work is testament to the permanence of people in shifting environments and celebrates the every-day hustle and bustle of the New Covent Garden Market community.
